Raftelis Founder and Chairman honored by NC AWWA-WEA

At the recent annual conference of the North Carolina American Water Works Association and the North Carolina Water Environment Association (NC AWWA-WEA), Raftelis’ Founder and current Chairman of the Board, George Raftelis, was honored with two awards for his achievements and contributions to the utility industry in North Carolina.

The first recognition he received, was an induction into the North Carolina Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (5-S). Formed in 1986, the purpose of the 5-S is the betterment of the NC Water Environment Association and the promotion of its objectives. Selection for membership into this society is considered a high honor, and recognizes long and faithful service to the Association.

George was also given a special recognition award for outstanding contributions to the NC AWWA-WEA. This award was related to his leadership to the Endowment Committee in setting up and implementing the NC Safewater Endowment Program which is a program that promotes increasing knowledge and understanding of safe water by providing scholarships to a variety of students who are focusing on environmental and water-related issues.
