Reducing food waste locally requires sustained investments, as well as a deep understanding of local municipal operations and financial opportunities. These programs often demand significant coordination and are frequently constrained by limited local budgets. Despite the environmental urgency, food waste programs often face challenges, one of the most fundamental of which is, “How are we going to pay for it?”
This is why Raftelis partnered with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) on a series of Food Matters workshops that focused on food waste reduction in cities. Our workshops covered municipal funding structures for sustainable food waste diversion programs, grant funding for reducing food waste, and leveraging fees to fund flexible and sustainable food waste projects.
