Since 2018, the Town of Nantucket (Town) has engaged Raftelis on several projects. The first was a Town-wide Staffing Study which included an organizational assessment and staffing recommendations for every Town department, including police and fire. The Town has a population of 11,000 year-round residents, is located on an island, and has a growing tourism industry that generates an estimated 40,000-50,000 seasonal residents each summer, resulting in unique operational challenges and approaches. The resulting report recommended specific management and operational opportunities to maximize existing staff capacity, improve recruitment and retention, facilitate data tracking and analysis, and foster a proactive work environment. The firm has also provided a structural review of the Town’s Planning and Land Use Services function, development of a Strategic Plan in 2018, and a Succession Plan in 2022.
